3 Best Card Machines for a Car Wash in South Africa (2026)
Sell airtime to the customer who waits, keep the machine out of the wet, record each washer's tips and get the weekend's money on time. Three machines compared.
Some links here are referral links, and where a provider gives our readers a better price than its own site, that is the price you get by using one. It costs you nothing extra, and every option here is judged on the same test either way.
At a car wash you have the customer for twenty to forty minutes while their car's washed. They sit on a bench or stand in the shade with their phone, and few counters get that much of a customer's time.
So the card machine should earn something from that wait, stay out of the water, and record each tip under the washer who did the car. The fee on each sale matters, but only after those three.
This guide is for anyone running a hand car wash with a few bays. I've only included iKhokha, Yoco and WAPPoint, because their machines work whatever bank you use, run on their own SIM at the kiosk or out at the car, and can take tips. Adumo, for more than one wash, is near the end.
What a car wash needs from a card machine
Put the wait, the wet and the tip together and you get four things to check, most important first. Each machine below is scored on them.
Sells the waiting customer something
Airtime, data or electricity sold on the machine, with the voucher in the customer's hand before their car's done.
Every top-up earns commission from someone who's already paying you for the washCopes with the wet, or stays out of it
A water rating from the maker, or a dry spot at the kiosk where the attendant keeps it.
Washers' hands are wet and soapy all day, so where the machine lives matters as much as its ratingKnows who took each sale and each tip
A tip prompt on the machine, a login or staff ID for each person, and each tip recorded under the washer who did the car.
The attendant who takes the payment often isn't the one who washed the carThe weekend's card money in time for the week
Saturday's and Sunday's card sales in your bank by Monday, or sooner.
If Saturday and Sunday are your busiest days, a slow payout holds back most of your week's card moneyHow the three measure up at a wash
All three run on their own SIM. iKhokha and Yoco put a tip prompt on the machine, while WAPPoint offers tipping in its WAPPos software. Adumo isn't in the table, because its prices and settings come in a quote.
| Requirement | iKhokha iK Flyer, R1 499 | Yoco Khumo 2, R699 | WAPPoint SquarePOS RX, R189 a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sells the waiting customer something | Airtime, data and electricity, voucher printed | No prepaid on the machine | WAPPoint's pages disagree; its vouchers print on the PrintPOS |
| Copes with the wet, or stays out of it | iKhokha gives no water rating | IP54 on its product page; its care page says keep it dry | WAPPoint gives no water rating |
| Knows who took each sale and each tip | Tip prompt; staff profiles, and a staff ID links each tip to a washer | Tip prompt; a PIN for each person, with tips shown per person | Tips in its WAPPos software; more machines at the same rental |
| The weekend's card money in time for the week | Monday on FNB or Absa; same day with the iK Debit Card | By 8am the next day with Fast Payout, Sundays too | 1-2 business days, five days a week |

For a wash where people sit and wait, the first column decides it, and the iK Flyer is the one whose maker says it sells prepaid and prints the voucher. The Khumo 2 is the only one of the three with a water rating, though Yoco's own pages disagree on what it means.
The iKhokha iK Flyer, for a wash where customers wait
If your customers sit while their car's washed and ask for airtime or electricity, this is the one to get. The iK Flyer sells airtime, data and electricity and prints the voucher, so the customer has the PIN on a slip before the car's done.
Every one of those sales earns you commission. It's 3% on airtime and data paid in cash, 2% paid by card with no card fee, and 1% on electricity. It reaches your prepaid balance in the first week of the next month, and you fund that balance yourself, as the spaza shop guide explains.
With tipping switched on, the customer picks a tip when the attendant hands over the machine. Give each washer a staff ID and type it in at the sale, and iKhokha links the tip to that ID in iK Dashboard, even if someone else took the payment. If staff skip the ID, the tip goes under ID 1.
It costs more than Yoco to own and to run. It's R1 499, with 10% off through our discount link, then 2.75% Excluding VATThe rate before 15% VAT is added, which is how almost every South African provider quotes. A rate of 2.30% excl. VAT actually bills you 2.645%, so two quotes are only comparable once you know which basis each is on.On a R120 full wash paid by card2.75% excluding VAT is R3.30, and with 15% VAT on top iKhokha keeps R3.80 of the R120. Yoco and WAPPoint quote their fees the same way.Card machine fees in South Africa are quoted before VAT, and what actually leaves your sale is the fee plus 15%. If you're VAT-registered you claim that VAT back; if not, add 15% to every fee in this guide.See every term in the glossary a sale up to R40 000 a month, R2.50 a payout, and R75 a month for SIM data unless it runs on the kiosk's Wi-Fi. The new Flyer is on pre-order, so check the delivery date.

iKhokha iK Flyer
Prints airtime, data and electricity vouchers, and logs each tip against a washer's staff ID. 2.75% a sale.
My quick review of the iK Flyer, for a car wash
If you sell airtime and electricity at a counter and want to hand over a printed slip, this is iKhokha's machine for it. It prints receipts and the prepaid vouchers themselves on a touchscreen, for R1 499 once. You pay 2.75% excluding VAT a sale and R75 a month for SIMs (nothing on Wi-Fi), so over a year it costs more to run than Yoco's printing machine. The iKhokha review goes through it.
Where it stands out
- Prints receipts and prepaid vouchers
- Takes tap, chip and stripe
- Two SIM cards, and Wi-Fi
- A 30-day money-back guarantee
Buy it if
- You hand customers a printed slip
- You sell airtime or electricity at the counter
Skip it if
- You don't need to print: the Lite is R800 less
- The fee per sale matters most to you
If you skip it, the best alternative
R100 less to buy (R1 399 against R1 499), with a lower fee per sale and data included. The iK Flyer prints prepaid vouchers too.
Read our full Yoco reviewPrices from ikhokha.com on 14 Oct 2026.
So who should buy it? A wash with a lounge or a shaded area where customers sit and ask for airtime. The R699 iK Flyer Lite sells prepaid too but doesn't print, and iKhokha says only that its voucher delivery differs by product, so I'd pay for the Flyer. The iKhokha review covers both.
So where does Yoco fit in?
Yoco wins the wash where nobody asks for airtime, or where the customer stays in the car and the attendant walks to the window. The Khumo 2 is R699, and Yoco takes R100 off when you buy through us. There's nothing to pay monthly on Yoco CoreYoco's standard plan, and the one almost every small business is on. It costs R0 a month, charges 2.30% excluding VAT per local card sale, and includes unlimited mobile data on the machine's multi-network SIM at no extra cost. Instant Payout costs a flat R17.25 for a payout under R1 000 and 1.5% above that on Core, for up to R10 000, once a day.On a R150 wash and vacuumCore's fee on a R150 card sale is R3.45 plus VAT. There's no monthly charge on top, so a rainy week with few cars costs you nothing to keep the machine.Core is Yoco's free plan and the one most small businesses start on. There's no monthly fee, the point-of-sale software is included, and the fee is 2.30% excluding VAT on local cards up to R50 000 a month. Plus (R249 a month) and Pro (R499) lower the fee and add tools.See every term in the glossary, data's included at no extra cost, and the fee is 2.30% against iKhokha's 2.75%.
As the table showed, it's the only one of the three with a water rating. Yoco's Khumo 2 page calls it IP54, dust and splash resistant, but Yoco's care page says its machines aren't waterproof and must be kept from all liquids and rain. So I'd keep it out of the bay and treat IP54 as cover for spray at the car window, as the food truck guide does with steam.
The customer tips a percentage or an amount, and each attendant signs in with a four-digit PIN, so Yoco shows each person's sales and tips. A washer who didn't take the payment signs in for that sale, so the tip shows under their name. A second Khumo 2 is another R699 on the same account, and the salon guide goes further into the tip prompt.
Yoco Fast PayoutYoco's next-morning payout, switched on in the Yoco app. Each day's card sales reach your bank account by 8am the next day, seven days a week, Sundays and public holidays included. It costs 0.75% plus VAT on the Core plan (at least R7.50), 0.50% on Plus, and Yoco says it's free on Pro for now. It's a different product from Instant Payout, which pays within minutes when you ask. After a busy Saturday at the washTake R6 000 on card on a Saturday and Fast Payout has it in your bank by 8am on Sunday for R45 plus VAT, by our sums. If only a few customers ask for airtime, add the free iKhokha App on your phone for SMS vouchers, a combination the spaza guide covers.

Yoco Khumo 2
Rated IP54 on Yoco's product page, data included, tips and staff PINs. 2.30% a sale and R0 a month on Core.
My quick review of the Khumo 2, for a wash where nobody asks for airtime
For most small businesses this is where I'd start. It's R699 once and nothing monthly on Yoco's free Core plan, with 4G data included, and the fee is 2.30% excluding VAT on a local card sale. Payouts are free in one to two business days, or by 8am the next day with Fast Payout. It doesn't print, so receipts go by SMS or email. The full Khumo 2 review goes through it in detail.
Where it stands out
- Built-in 4G with unlimited data, and Wi-Fi, at no extra cost
- Up to 18 hours on one charge
- Tips, split bills, refunds and staff profiles on the machine
- Delivered free in up to 3 days, or collected from over 300 stores
Buy it if
- You want the lowest cost to own, with nothing to pay monthly
- Receipts by SMS or email suit your customers
Skip it if
- Customers expect a printed slip: the Khumo Print 2 prints
- Customers ask you for airtime or electricity, which iKhokha's machines sell
If you skip it, the best alternative
The same R699, and it sells prepaid, but its fee is 2.75% against Yoco's 2.30%, and data costs R75 a month where Yoco's is included.

You pay for the Khumo 2 once: R699 for the machine, or R599 with Yoco's R100 off through mashjoy.com. After that, the plan you choose decides two things, what you pay each month and what Yoco takes from each card sale. Most small businesses stay on Core, which costs nothing a month. The paid plans lower the fee a little and add tools, so pick one for the tools rather than the saving.

The Khumo 2 suits an express or drive-through wash, a mobile wash, or any wash where nobody asks for airtime, and it's the cheaper one to own and to run.
WAPPoint, if you'd rather not pay upfront
WAPPoint's SquarePOS RX is a machine you rent. It's R200 to set up, then R189 a month plus R50 insurance, and the R189 falls away in any month above R15 000 on card, so a busy month costs R50. It takes tap payments on Vodacom or MTN 4G, or Wi-Fi.
Below R15 000 a month it's the expensive way in. A year at R239 a month plus the setup comes to R3 068 by our sums, against R699 once for a Khumo 2. WAPPoint gives no water rating for it, and its pages disagree on whether it sells prepaid.
It pays in one to two business days, five days a week, without saying which five, and a sixth day costs 0.2% more. You can also buy the SquarePOS RX for R3 199 excluding VAT, and our WAPPoint review weighs renting against owning.

WAPPoint SquarePOS RX
No rental to pay in any month above R15 000 on card, just the R50 insurance. 2.75% a sale.
My quick review of the SquarePOS RX, for a wash that's just starting
If R699 upfront is out of reach right now, this is the cheapest way to start taking cards. WAPPoint rents it for R189 a month plus R50 insurance, after R200 to set up, and the R189 falls away in any month you take more than R15 000 on card. So a busy month costs you R50 and a quiet one R239. You can also buy it for R3 199 excluding VAT. The WAPPoint review explains the threshold in full.
Where it stands out
- No rental in any month above R15 000
- R200 to start
- Vodacom or MTN 4G, and Wi-Fi
- An all-day battery
Buy it if
- You can't put R699 down today
- You take more than R15 000 a month on card most months
Skip it if
- Your card sales are small: below R15 000 you pay R239 a month
- You'd rather own the machine from day one for less
If you skip it, the best alternative
R499 less to start (R200 against R699), but below R15 000 a month it costs R239 every month, where the Khumo 2 costs nothing monthly.

Rent it if you're a new wash that can't put R699 down this month and you expect to pass R15 000 on card soon. From then on, most months cost only the R50 insurance.
What a month costs at R12 000 and R30 000 on card
The three charge in different ways, so the fair test is one month. R12 000 and R30 000 on card are examples, not what a wash makes, so read the one nearer yours.
One month with each machine, at R12 000 and at R30 000 in local card sales, over 26 trading days:

By our sums, from each company's own pages. Local cards, all figures excluding VAT. Yoco's payout here is the free one; Fast Payout adds 0.75% on the days you use it. The iK Flyer's R75 falls away on the kiosk's Wi-Fi. Machine prices are shown before the extra discounts the companies give our readers.← scroll sideways on a narrow screen →
The Khumo 2 costs R194 a month less than the iK Flyer at R12 000, and R275 less at R30 000.
Above R15 000 the SquarePOS RX rental stops, so at R30 000 it costs R120 less than the iK Flyer, but still R155 more than the Khumo 2.
Prepaid commission isn't in the table, because it depends on what your customers buy. By our sums the iK Flyer earns back that R194 at R12 000 if you sell about R250 of airtime a day paid in cash, eight or nine R30 top-ups. If your customers ask for that much, the Flyer pays its way. If not, buy the Khumo 2.
When the weekend's card money reaches you
On Yoco's free payout, Saturday's card sales are paid on Monday and land on Tuesday or Wednesday, while Fast Payout, as we saw, has them in your bank by Sunday morning.
On iKhokha, FNB and Absa accounts get the weekend's card sales on Monday. iKhokha's pricing page says Nedbank accounts are paid the same day, twice a day, and the iK Debit Card does the same, Monday to Sunday, into a GoTyme Bank EveryDay accountA free personal transaction account from GoTyme Bank, a South African digital bank. It is not an iKhokha product: you open it yourself in the GoTyme app, then list it on your iKhokha profile as your payout account. It is the only account iKhokha's same-day iK Debit Card pays into. iKhokha also pays Nedbank customers twice a day, the same day, with no GoTyme account involved. For a wash run by one ownerOpen it in the GoTyme app and list it on your iKhokha profile with the iK Debit Card, and Sunday morning's card sales can be in it on Sunday afternoon.A free personal transaction account from GoTyme Bank, a South African digital bank. Card money isn't cash in the kiosk. If you pay washers or hand over their tips in cash at close, keep enough of the day's cash back to cover it, because a tip on the card reaches your bank with the rest of your card sales.
Capitec says its card machine pays the next day, weekends and public holidays included (read 15 October 2026), but only into a Capitec account, so it isn't one of the three here. Capitec vs Yoco compares the two, and the fastest-payout ranking and our payout times guide cover every option.
If you run more than one wash
With two or more sites, a price agreed for your business starts to make sense, and that's how Adumo works. You get an account manager, 24/7 support and payouts into any bank with no payout fees, on a PAX A910S with a printer and two SIMs. Ask for the tip and staff settings and the payout days in the quote.
The fair comparison is a Khumo 2 at each wash at 2.30%.
Adumo PAX A910S
A printer, two SIMs and 4G, an account manager, and settlement into any bank with no settlement fees.
My quick review of Adumo's PAX A910S, for more than one wash
If your business has grown past the point where a fixed price list suits you, Adumo is worth a conversation. It works with growing businesses and large enterprises alike, and instead of a public price list you get an account manager and a fee agreed for your business. Small businesses start on adumo Flow with the PAX A910S, a 4G machine with a printer and two SIMs, and the money settles into any bank account with no settlement fees. Adumo names supermarkets, pharmacies, hardware and fashion stores and takeaways as its fit.
Where it stands out
- Settlement into any bank, with no settlement fees
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 4G, two SIMs and a printer
- QR payments and card-linked instalments
- 24/7 support and an account manager
Buy it if
- You run a supermarket, pharmacy, hardware or fashion store, or a takeaway, which Adumo names as its fit
- You'd like a rate set for your business
Skip it if
- You want to order today without speaking to anyone: Yoco and iKhokha sell online
If you skip it, the best alternative
The Khumo 2 is R699 with a fixed 2.30% fee, and you can order it today. Adumo starts with a conversation, and in return you get a rate set for your business and an account manager.

At R30 000 a month on card, that's R690 a month a site in fees by our sums, the number Adumo's quote has to beat.
If your car wash doesn't look like that
Not every wash has a bench of customers waiting. Find the line that sounds like yours.
Pick by how your wash runs
So which card machine should a car wash get?
The iKhokha iK Flyer, for a wash where customers sit and wait. It's the one of the three whose maker says it sells airtime, data and electricity and prints the voucher, and you can see each washer's tips by their staff ID. It's 10% off the R1 499 through our discount link.
Get the Yoco Khumo 2 instead if customers stay in their cars or nobody asks for airtime. It's R699, R100 less through us, and costs R194 to R275 a month less to run. Rent WAPPoint's SquarePOS RX if you can't pay upfront, and with more than one wash, put Adumo's quote against a Khumo 2 at each.

Choosing
What is the best card machine for a car wash in South Africa?
For a wash where customers sit and wait, the iKhokha iK Flyer at R1 499.It sells and prints airtime, data and electricity vouchers, and links each tip to a washer's staff ID. Where nobody asks for prepaid, the Yoco Khumo 2 at R699 costs less to run. Prices checked 16 October 2026.
Tips
Can customers tip the washer on a card machine?
Yes. iKhokha's and Yoco's machines both ask the customer for a tip during the card payment.iKhokha records each tip under the staff ID typed in at the sale, and Yoco under the staff member signed in with their PIN. Neither company describes paying a tip out to staff, so plan on handing the washer their tip yourself.
The wet
Is the Yoco Khumo 2 waterproof?
Yoco gives two answers. Its Khumo 2 page says the machine is IP54-rated, which it describes as dust and splash resistant, while its care page says Yoco card machines aren't waterproof and should be kept away from all liquids and rain. Check with Yoco before using it near a wash bay, and keep it with the attendant in the meantime.
Prepaid
How much commission does iKhokha pay on airtime and electricity?
iKhokha's help centre lists 3% on airtime and data paid for in cash, 2% when the customer pays by card (with no card fee on that sale), and 1% on electricity, water and gas. It's added to your prepaid balance in the first week of the next month. Checked 16 October 2026.
Staff
Can two attendants share one card machine?
Yes. On a Yoco machine each person signs in with their own four-digit PIN, and the iKhokha iK Flyer switches between staff profiles.Either way you can see who took each sale. A second Yoco Khumo 2 is another R699 on the same account.
