Yoco Khumo 2 review

Six weeks on a real counter, at a real rate, with the settlement statements to show for it.

Some links here are referral links, and where a provider gives our readers a better price than its own site, that is the price you get by using one. It costs you nothing extra, and every option here is judged on the same test either way.

H2 wide · 16:9 · 960px The unit we bought, on our own desk, showing wear. Not the press render - the press render is what everyone else runs.

The Khumo 2 we bought in May, after six weeks on a counter. The scuff on the reader edge is the one you will get too.

What it costs, and what that buys

The Khumo 2 is R699 once-off with no monthly fee on Yoco's Core plan, which makes it the cheapest way into card payments in South Africa that does not involve renting. Dual-SIM data is included, so it falls over to a second network when the first drops — the difference between trading and not, on a bad signal day.

Who it's for

The machine we recommend most often for a first counter. No monthly fee on Core, dual-SIM data included.

Against the iK Flyer Lite at the same R699, the difference is not the hardware — it is the rate above about R60,000 a month in turnover, where iKhokha starts winning.

Best for

Who should avoid it

Quick verdict

Ready to try Yoco Khumo 2?

What works

  • No monthly fee on the Core plan
  • Dual-SIM falls over between networks
  • Next-business-day settlement as standard

What does not

  • Card rate is beaten above about R60k/month
  • No printer — that is a dearer model
  • Support is email-first

Who should not buy it

Under roughly fifteen card payments a month, buying any machine is the wrong move — the rate barely matters and the hardware is the whole cost. A QR-only option costs nothing and settles the same way.

⚠️ Warning

If you are switching providers, cancel AFTER the last settlement of the month clears. Two readers lost a week of payouts to a mid-month switch.

And if you need a printed slip at the counter, this is not the model — the printing version costs about R800 more, and seven in ten shops we asked had not printed a slip in a year.
