Invoicing Software With Payment Links in South Africa (2026)
Which tools put a PayFast, Yoco, Paystack or iKhokha button on the invoice itself, which reach one via an add-on, and which leave you chasing an EFT.
An invoice with a pay-now button on it is a payment. An invoice without one is a request, and a request is something your client gets round to.
That single difference is why this article exists separately from the ranked guide, because the axis it measures is the one where the usual order turns upside down. The biggest, best-known, most-recommended invoicing tools in the world are the ones least able to get a South African client to pay you from the invoice.
Here is the operational reality nobody puts a number on. Invoice R60 000 a month, and if your clients pay eleven days late on average instead of on the day, you are permanently financing about R22 000 of somebody else's cashflow out of your own working capital.
A pay-now button is more than a convenience: it is the cheapest working capital you will ever get, and R99 a month is what it costs. Our ranked guide weighs that against everything else they do well.
Built in: Rebill
Rebill connects to PayFast, Yoco, Paystack and iKhokha, which is all four of the gateways a South African small business is likely to already have. Not through a marketplace, not through a connector somebody else maintains. In the product.
It also takes no cut of its own. You pay your gateway's fee, typically somewhere in the 2% to 3.5% range depending on which one you are on, and Rebill charges nothing on top of it beyond the R99 a month for Premium.

- Free tier10 invoices, 5 clients, 5 quotes a month; no online payments and no VAT calculations on free
- SA payment gatewaysPayFast, Yoco, Paystack and iKhokha
- WhatsApp delivery20 credits a month included, then R0.30 each
The second thing it does is the one I would actually pay for. It sends the invoice on WhatsApp, with 20 credits included each month and R0.30 for each one after that.
Email is where South African invoices go to be forgotten. WhatsApp is where the client already is, and a pay-now link that arrives in the same thread as the rest of your conversation gets opened.
On the free plan you are limited to 10 invoices a month and five clients, which is enough to test whether that changes anything before spending R99. The free tiers guide sets out where each one stops.
Through an add-on: Xero
Xero does reach South African gateways, and most articles either miss this or overstate it.
Paystack has an app in Xero's South African app store, and PayFast runs its own Xero integration, switched on from the PayFast dashboard; Xero's app store no longer lists the PayFast one. Connect either and your invoices carry a pay-now link, and payments reconcile back against the invoice automatically, which is the part Xero is genuinely excellent at.

Two qualifications, though, because "supported" is doing some work in that sentence.
It is not native. The connection is an app someone else maintains, which is a dependency you have taken on rather than a feature Xero has shipped, and South African users have been asking Xero for native PayFast, Yoco and Paystack support for a long time without getting it.
And Yoco and iKhokha are not on the list at all. If your card machine is a Khumo or an iK Flyer, the gateway you already have an account with is not the one your invoicing software can use, which is a strange place for a small business to end up.
None at all: Zoho Invoice
This is the finding that changes how the whole vertical should be ranked, and it is worth being precise rather than rude about it.
Zoho publishes the gateways Zoho Invoice connects to on its own South African page. The list runs Stripe, PayPal, Square, Authorize.net, Razorpay, 2CheckOut, Paytm, CSG Forte, Braintree, Verifone, ICICI Bank Eazypay and GoCardless. Not one South African gateway appears on it.

So what actually happens when you send one
Your client gets a well-designed PDF with your banking details on it and makes an EFT, whenever they get to it. That is not a failure of the software; Zoho Invoice is still the most complete free invoicing tool available here. It is a mismatch between a global product's gateway list and the country you are invoicing in, and it costs you in days rather than in rands.
There are two partial routes, and both come with a caveat I am not going to hide.
Zoho Billing, which is a different and paid product, has a Paystack route. And because PayFast and PayGate are now the same company, a PayGate connector may reach PayFast. Both of those come from Zoho's community and help forums rather than from a product page, so treat them as leads to check with Zoho rather than as facts to plan around.
The plain version is this: if getting paid from the invoice matters to you, Zoho Invoice being free is not the saving it looks like. A tool that costs R99 a month and collects on the day beats a free one that collects in three weeks, every time.
Two, set up by hand: payPod
payPod is South African, its free tier is the most generous in this market, and its own guides show how to put a PayFast Pay Now button or a Yoco payment link on its invoices.
It is set up by hand: you enter your PayFast merchant ID, or paste your Yoco payment link, into payPod's settings, and payPod's own PayFast guide says payments are then tracked manually rather than matched to the invoice. The guides date from 2020 and 2021, and payPod's product pages do not mention either, so confirm with payPod that both still work before you rely on them.
That makes payPod a real second option for a PayFast or Yoco merchant who works alone, without Rebill's Paystack, iKhokha or automatic matching of payments to invoices.
What to do about it
If getting paid from the invoice is the problem you are solving, use Rebill. Four gateways built in, no cut taken on top of your gateway's own fee, WhatsApp delivery, R99 a month. It is South African and it is the only tool here that treats the pay-now button as the product rather than as an integration.
If you already run your books in Xero, do not move. Switch on PayFast's Xero integration from your PayFast dashboard, or add the Paystack app from Xero's South African app store, and you have a pay-now link by this afternoon. What Xero gives you in reconciliation is worth more than what it costs you in going through a marketplace.
If you are on Zoho Invoice and it is working, the question is how much the waiting costs you. If your clients are corporates on 30-day terms, nothing changes. If you are chasing forty small payments a month, you are paying for a free tool in the only currency that matters.
And if your card machine is an iKhokha, only Rebill reaches it from the invoice; a Yoco account also works through payPod's payment link, and Xero's Yoco app syncs your sales into the books rather than putting a button on the invoice. Your gateway account and your invoicing tool being unable to speak to each other is worth fixing at the invoicing end, because the machine is not the part you would replace. Our card machine guide covers that side of it.
One rule to take with you, whichever you land on. Test the link before you send it to a client, with a real payment of a few rands, on a phone rather than a laptop.
A gateway that is connected but not activated produces an invoice with a button that goes nowhere, and the first person to discover that should not be the client you are asking for money. Whatever tool sends it, what SARS requires on the document does not change.
Questions people actually ask
Gateways
Which invoicing software works with PayFast in South Africa?
Rebill connects to PayFast built in, along with Yoco, Paystack and iKhokha, on its R99 a month Premium plan.payPod adds a PayFast Pay Now button that you set up by hand. Xero reaches PayFast through PayFast's own Xero integration rather than natively. Zoho Invoice does not list PayFast, or any other South African gateway, among the payment gateways it supports. Checked 24 September 2026.
Can I put a pay now button on a Zoho invoice in South Africa?
Not with a South African gateway.Zoho Invoice's own pages list Stripe, PayPal, Square, Authorize.net, Verifone, Braintree and Telr, none of which is a South African provider. Your client receives a PDF and pays by EFT. Zoho Billing, a separate paid product, has a Paystack route.
Does Xero support Yoco or iKhokha?
No. Paystack has an app in Xero's South African app store and PayFast runs its own Xero integration, so those two can add a pay-now link to a Xero invoice.Yoco's Xero app syncs sales rather than adding a pay button, and iKhokha is not available. If your card machine is a Yoco or an iKhokha, the gateway account you already hold cannot be used from Xero, and Rebill is currently the only invoicing tool that connects to all four.
Cost
Do invoicing tools charge extra for payment links?
Rebill charges nothing on top of your gateway's own rate, which typically falls somewhere between 2% and 3.5% depending on the provider; you pay only the R99 monthly Premium fee.Gateway fees are always charged by the gateway rather than the invoicing tool, so compare the monthly subscription and the gateway rate as two separate costs.
